This is the welcome address and introductory lecture to the First International Conference on Contemporary Esotericism, held at Stockholm University, Sweden, July 27-29, 2012. The lecture (Egil Asprem and Kennet Granholm) introduces ContERN, the theme of the conference, and discusses the need for interdisciplinary research on contemporary esotericism.
