Call for Scholars and Practitioners: ContERN and the New Religiosity Poll

The Contemporary Esotericism Research Network (ContERN) is partnering with the John Templeton Foundation (project #63357) to recruit contributors for the New Religiosity Poll (NRP), within the framework of the project “New Religiosity and the Digital Study of Eudaimonia”.

We are currently recruiting up to 40 contributors, including scholars and current or former members of esoteric movements (broadly defined). PhD candidates are also welcome, provided they can demonstrate substantial expertise in the movement they intend to document. Contributors are expected to have significant ethnographic and/or historical knowledge of a movement in order to complete a detailed entry.

The NRP focuses on beliefs, gender roles, technology use, health and financial practices, processes of affiliation and disaffiliation, and related topics. Each entry will undergo double peer review, receive a DOI, and be published open access on the Database of Religious History (DRH) platform.

We estimate that completing an entry will take approximately 14 hours. As an honorarium, contributors will receive 300 CAD per completed entry. Please note that the timeline is very tight: the ideal submission deadline is March 15, with a final, non-extendable deadline of June 15. Prospective contributors are therefore kindly asked to consider their availability before applying.

If you are interested in contributing or would like further information, please contact ContERN Co-coordinator Dr. Davide Marino at davide.marino@theologie.uni-goettingen.de
